Too much or too little farting may be a sign of illness

Farting is a barometer of intestinal health; both excessive and insufficient farting require attention. Farting 5-15 times a day is normal. A sudden increase may indicate lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, or poor digestion. Long-term absence of farting accompanied by bloating requires concern for intestinal obstruction risk. Especially when foul-smelling or silent farts occur frequently, it may reflect an imbalance in gut flora, gastrointestinal bleeding, or other digestive issues.
